Reporting System
The Reporting System — is a business intelligence system Metabase integrated into GEGI. It is used to generate reports for different contexts, manipulate GEGI data, and visualize it in a convenient way for users.
The Reporting System allows creating new reports without developing individual interfaces for each report, as well as creating and saving custom queries and contexts.
The Reporting System gives extensive report visualization abilities, such as charts, maps, etc.
You can find more information about the Reporting System in the official Metabase documentation.
Please note, that information about the new Metabase releases and features is not repeated in GEGI documentation. You can find information about the current version and previous releases on the Metabase Releases.
Main terms and concepts
- Question (Metabase documentation) — a query and its visualization that can be used as a standalone data presentation variant, but usually is a part of a dashboard.
- Dashboard (Metabase documentation) — a report consisting of 1 or multiple correlated questions combined on a single page with common filters.
- Collection (Metabase documentation) — a folder that groups collections, questions, and dashboards with a common subject.
- Bookmarks (Metabase documentation) — all entities marked as a “Bookmark” by a user. You can bookmark questions, dashboards, or even whole collections.
Access to the Reporting System
The Reporting System can be accessed by users with the Sign in as Unique User in the Reporting System and View All Reports permission. This permission allows viewing all official collections.
There is a limit to the number of users working with the Reporting System concurrently. The limit is defined for each school individually.
When the limit is reached, users will not be able to open the Reporting System and will see the following message:
If the total number of users who can work with the Reporting System exceeds the limit when assigning the Sign in as Unique User in the Reporting System and View All Reports permission, you will see the following notification:
You can enable an email notification about the number of concurrent reporting system users reaching the limit by adding the Receive Emails When the Number of Concurrently Active Users of the Reporting System Reaches the Configured Number permission to users or roles.
Data Relevance and Synchronization
The Reporting System data is not updated in real time. For example, if a student receives a grade, the grade will be visible in the Reporting System only after some time.
The lower part of the window shows the Reporting System data relevance information and the next synchronization time:
